ZAFOS XAGORARIS / Professor
Zafos Xagoraris (1963, Athens) holds a Master of Science in Visual Studies (Massachusetts Institute of Technology), while his PhD was on the construction of miracles by Hero of Alexandria (NTUA, Department of Architecture).
His artwork consists of drawings, participatory events and outdoor sound installations. Works such as “The Performance”, NEON City Project, reconstruct elements of the past related to today and call to action by focusing on minor historical details.
He has recently presented a series of educational events and installations (“Tilted Classroom” and “Dismantling Devices”) with the participation of schools, students, pedagogical teams such as “Skasiarcheio”, or institutions including Freiraum in der Box – Berlin, ACC – Weimar, Benaki Museum – Athens or Onassis Education.
Xagoraris has participated in various international shows such as the 58th Venice Biennale, documenta14, Athens – Kassel and the 27th Bienal de São Paulo. Moreover, he was one of the curators of the Greek Pavilion at the 9th Venice Biennale of Architecture and the 2nd Athens Biennale.
He is a Professor at the Athens School of Fine Arts, was a Witt Artist in Residence at the University of Michigan, a Visiting Scholar at Columbia University, as well as a Visiting Professor at the Free University of Berlin and the Universities of Patras and Sassari.
